Endoscopic Spine Surgery for Lumbar Disc Herniation: A Successful International Patient Journey
At SpineCareBLR, we focus on providing advanced, evidence-based solutions for patients suffering from back pain, sciatica and lumbar disc problems. One such recent case involved a 28-year-old patient from Iraq who presented with severe low back pain and right-sided radiating leg pain that was progressively worsening despite consultations with multiple specialists.
Following a detailed clinical evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with an L5–S1 intervertebral disc prolapse (lumbar disc herniation).Clinical examination demonstrated a positive straight-leg-raising test on the right side, consistent with nerve-root irritation, while no neurological deficits were noted.
Minimally Invasive Endoscopic Spine Surgery
The patient underwent Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy (UBE) / endoscopic discectomy for the L5–S1 disc herniation. Endoscopic spine surgery is a minimally invasive technique that allows the surgeon to directly address the compressed nerve and herniated disc through small surgical access points.
In this case, the patient experienced immediate relief of his radiating leg pain following surgery. He was mobilized approximately four hours after the procedure and was discharged the following day.
Remarkably, the patient was able to fly back to Iraq just four days after surgery and subsequently resumed his routine activities without discomfort.

Advanced Spine Care at SpineCareBLR
This case highlights the potential benefits of minimally invasive spine surgery and endoscopic discectomy in appropriately selected patients with lumbar disc herniation and sciatica. At SpineCareBLR, our approach emphasizes accurate diagnosis, individualized treatment planning and the use of modern minimally invasive spine techniques whenever appropriate.
If you are experiencing persistent back pain, sciatica, leg pain, lumbar disc prolapse or nerve compression, an evaluation by a specialist spine surgeon can help determine whether conservative treatment or spine surgery is appropriate for you.
